Biography Iain dedicates the majority of his time to client counseling relating to high technology patent disputes, including: developing client-specific business plans to enforce and license patent portfolios; negotiating licenses; conducting pre-suit investigations including patent infringement and validity studies; conducting due diligence investigations in support of mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures; developing patent procurement and patent prosecution strategies; and consulting in the prosecution of key patents before the Patent and Trademark Office.
Iain brings to patent strategies both technical credibility and extensive expertise in Patent Office practice and procedure. Iain has an impressive technical background, specializing in optical devices, medical devices, semiconductors and electronics. After receiving his Ph.D. in Physics, Iain spent ten years working as a physicist, during which time he helped to develop the world’s most intense laser source and the world’s first commercially available, actively Q-switched, sub-nanosecond laser system. He is the author on more than thirty refereed publications and thirty conference presentations, and is named inventor on three patents. He also has successfully developed intellectual property portfolios for leading technology clients in both U.S. and foreign jurisdictions.
In 2002 he was named by Minnesota Lawyer magazine as one of the top 10 Up and Coming Attorneys in Minnesota.
