Biography
Tom Johnson is a 15 year trial attorney with a substantial practice in intellectual property litigation. During his years of practice, he has tried numerous cases to verdict before both judges and juries. He has also successfully resolved numerous matters in contested arbitration hearings. During the past 8 years, Tom has dedicated his practice to intellectual property law with an emphasis on mechanical and pharmaceutical patent litigation.

While at the law firm of Merchant & Gould, P.C. in Minneapolis, Tom represented both patent owners and accused infringers in patent disputes involving high-tech air filters, pharmaceutical compositions, computer chip manufacturing, commercial irrigation systems, sophisticated golf and turf care equipment, optical lenses for 3D imaging, and industrial insulation. Upon joining Carlson Caspers Vandenburgh and Lindquist, Tom focused a large part of his practice on drug disputes arising under the provisions of the Hatch-Waxman Act.

Tom also has extensive litigation experience handling other types of complex intellectual property matters such as trademark infringement, copyright infringement, misappropriation of trade secrets, false advertising and unfair competition. In addition, Tom routinely advises clients on intellectual property-related licensing and strategy issues.

Tom received his J.D., cum laude in 1992 from the University of Minnesota. He obtained a B.S. in Economics with highest honors from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in 1987.
