Biography
Derek's practice emphasizes litigation counseling and appellate work. He has worked on a variety of litigation matters, including disputes concerning patent, trade secret, design patent, and trademark. Derek has briefed and argued a considerable number of appeals to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
At the beginning of his career, Derek worked extensively in the area of patent prosecution and later clerked for the Honorable Giles S. Rich of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He has taught intellectual property moot court at the University of Minnesota, and patent litigation at William Mitchell School of Law.
